One of the most simply elegant cars of the last few decades, this also represents what is arguably the last generation of the "forever Mercedes". After the Daimler Chrysler fiasco, Mercedes started chasing trends instead of timelessness.
A delightfully frumpy import from the UK, this one will probably turn the '73 into a parts car. A stalled project, so far work has focused on getting it running reliably.
The current most often driven, this truck was imported from Japan. With a 2.8l Diesel and 5 speed manual, it is the perfect blend of rugged simplicity and modern convenience. Not incredibly fast, it remains comfortable and capable while getting excellent fuel economy.
The daily driver in good weather, this was advertised in 1965 as one of the cheapest new cars you could buy. The only options it has are the heater and a slightly larger motor - the legendary 225 slant 6.
The beloved "OBS" or Old Body Style represents the beginning of the Silverado nameplate, but GMC emblems have always been preferred to bowties. A somewhat rare configuration, this truck combines a short bed and a Vortec smallblock with the heavy duty frame and driveline of the 3/4 ton trucks to (slowly) tow anything in the fleet.
The quintessential offroad vehicle, this example has been upgraded with a 200tdi motor from a 90's Discovery. When it eventually runs again, it will more than double the original 55 horsepower.
Lovingly nicknamed "Thud", this truck has been built for comfort, capability, and simplicity. Designed to handle long distance solo offroad trips, Thud has a Chevrolet Performance HT383 with an overbuilt TH350 transmission. Equipped with 55 gallons of fuel capacity and 15 gallons of potable water, as well as many redundant mechanical and electrical systems, Thud is a strong performer with just the right amount of rust.
The increasingly rare MGB GT has been the prototypical budget sports car since the day it came out. This one has been modernized with a Rootes supercharger. Rust and neglect mean it will be sacrificed to make the '78 shine, then sold off as a project for a more ambitious individual.
The darling of JDM nuts everywhere, this example just hit 100,000 miles. We knew the original owner and have had it for nearly 25 years now. It is a non-turbo stickshift, almost completely stock.
Purchased for $500 in 2017, this truck has been the longest lived member of the fleet by a good margin. Since purchase, there is not a single major component that has not injured me in some way. It tried to burn down Tahoe National Forest with an exploding battery, it smoke-bombed Death Valley when both cats failed simultaneously, and it has left its mark (mainly 10w-40) on dirt roads and remote campsites all over the West. Through all of the challenges, it has never failed to make it home safe and sound and I will trust this truck to get me anywhere in the country - and back.
The last year of the storied TJ and its bulletproof 4.0L engine, this one is especially known for stranding us at a restaurant in Mendocino when the key decided it no longer trusted us.
Not sure why Triumph decided to stick the high strung motor from the Street Triple into an adventure bike, but it makes for a very entertaining long distance tourer. The original owner of this one flew in from the UK and picked it up from the dealer in Southern California before riding it all over the country! He then sold it and hopped on a plane home a few months later.
An interesting design study, these have always had a cult following. Plus there's something just delightful about the sound of a turbocharged 5 cylinder.
I have never in my life sat in seats more comfortable than those in a modern Volvo. The V90CC is the ultimate road trip vehicle, with self-driving and an insanely good sound system. I enjoy driving my more involved cars, but there is something truly lovely about this car.
